We haven't replaced the carpet since we moved into the house in 2001. Over the years the carpet has been through a total remodel and both kids growing up. It was littered with food stains and kid stains. Now with the new puppy who hasn't completed potty training yet, the carpet saw it's last days. So it was decided to replace it with something cheap yet durable for now. Something that could be cheaply repaired. I had installed laminate flooring in the entrance way a couple of years ago from Ikea, and luckily they still sold the same model/color flooring, so we decided to extend the floring into the family room. They had not changed the specifications of the laminate so it was a seamless transition.
A trip to Ikea-Covina to pick up 18 boxes of laminate flooring.
Luckily it all fit in the car.
Stored it in the garage until I had time to install.

Completed project, well almost. Still need to install 1/4 round moulding to hide the edges.
At about $1.45 a sq ft including underlayment and supplies the room cost aobut $800 to complete.
